Our Raccoon Removal Services

WE'RE WILDLIFE REMOVAL EXPERTS YOU CAN TRUST.
We provide raccoon removal services for commercial and residential properties. We remove raccoons from roofs, decks, attics, and more.

There is an increase in raccoon populations throughout the United States, which means that more raccoons will seek shelter in homes or businesses. Raccoons naturally nest in ground burrows, and trees that are hollow but with habitat loss, lofts, crawl spaces, and chimneys are becoming more desirable and common. It can be challenging for a home owner to remove raccoons because they are good climbers and intelligent problem solvers.

The little masked bandits and adorably waddling raccoons may make you think they're cute. Unfortunately, raccoons are as untidy and rude as they are smart and pioneering. You need to take all possible measures to keep them out, but they'll always return if they see a suitable place to live. A raccoon will tear shingles, damage soffits, rip up siding, damage chimney caps, and remove mushroom vent caps to gain entry into your home during the early spring when females are pregnant.

In our office, we receive numerous phone calls regarding raccoons chewing through plumbing, damaging attics, insulation, and A/C ducting.

Texas is home to a large number of raccoons, which can weigh anywhere from 13 to 33 pounds and grow up to 42 inches in length. A raccoon's mating season usually occurs between February and March, and its gestation period is 65 days. Raccoons usually enter structures 2 or 3 weeks before giving birth. Because of their adaptability, raccoons can eat a wide variety of food.

Raccoons can be spotted by sudden disappearing pet food. It is important to move any animal food inside your property so that these unwanted critters won't be attracted to your property. The same principle applies to garbage. Raccoons will always be attracted to trash that has been left outside.

In addition to destroying insulation and wires, raccoon droppings pose a different threat. They may contain Roundworm, a parasite that can transmit Canine Distemper. And if that all wasn't bad enough... Raccoons are the number one carrier of Rabies!

Exclusion and Habitat Removal

The raccoon removal process will be very similar to the process used for squirrels, in which one-way doors will be used in all months except when babies are present. It is imperative that we seal all entry points to prevent future re-entry. Preventative exclusion is the most effective way to keep raccoons out. We will also recommend that you avoid creating areas that could be used as shelter or homes for raccoons outside of your property and removing any potential food sources. In the event of a re-invasion by raccoons, habitat removal and modification will become crucial for 100% prevention. Raccoons are not regulated for toxicants, so fear-inducing devices only work temporarily.

Entry Point Closure

Our service technician will remove all raccoons from your home. Once the raccoons have been removed, we want to make sure no more "guests" can get into your house. Most people and other wildlife companies try this with netting solutions, chimney caps, or other types of barriers. They are essentially useless. The ONLY barriers we use are custom molded metal plate covers which extend the full length of the areas of your home and roof that are most vulnerable. See rodent and squirrel pages for a more complete list of our exclusion plan and process.

Our friendly Wildlife Removal specialists are all qualified to accurately measure, cut, shape, and fasten these metal guards in place in order to seal all entry points so you do not need to worry about repeat invasions from the raccoons.

Trapping & Removal

We utilize trapping as an effective and humane way to remove raccoons from your home. A healthy trapped raccoon may be relocated with written permission if it is legal in your area as well. Direct capture is not common because raccoons are rabies vectors. Our wildlife specialists may seek assistance from local wildlife rehabilitation centers when removing raccoon babies from attics.

Raccoon Removal FAQs

As wildlife removal specialists, we get asked a LOT of questions about raccoons, their habits, why they do what they do, etc. Here is a selection of some of the more frequently asked questions:

Are Raccoons Dangerous?

Besides causing damage to your property, raccoons also pose a number of health risks. Rabies is the most common illness associated with raccoons, but they can also spread canine distemper to your dogs. In addition to raccoon hookworm, they may also have fleas and ticks that can spread to your house. Some might have raccoon hookworm, which can be airborne and passover to people through inhalation of dried stool.

Why Are Raccoons Attracted to My House?

The most important thing a raccoon looks for when it infiltrates your property is a safe place to raise its babies and live. If you have a raccoon in your yard or home, a raccoon will find food in your garden, around any backyard pond (if you own fish for example), or near a bird feeder. When they are in need of shelter, however, a shed or garage is the best place. You may see them climbing your roof and attic if there are taller trees nearby. In most cases, raccoons are seeking a place to live that is warm, dark and safe. If you have trash, food leftovers, or a food source that is easily accessible, they are more likely to settle down in your home.

Is It Possible To Prevent Raccoons From Invading My House?

The best way to protect your family and yourself from raccoons is to prevent them from entering your home. Raccoons are often a threat to your home, so professional help is often required to fortify it.

Raccoons will not climb trees trimmed back 5 to 7 feet from your house. You can hire a landscaper to ensure that no trees, shrubs, or bushes are touching your house or roof. Our exclusion professionals will install a one-way raccoon door that allows raccoons to escape but not return.

Adding mint oil, camphor oil, and eucalyptus to trash bags can also help keep raccoons away from your home. Raccoons hate mint, so this oil can REALLY help. Using powdered cayenne pepper or hot sauce, homeowners can make a natural raccoon deterrent. Use it in areas where raccoons are present.

How Do I Prevent Raccoons In The First Place?

Let's start with the easiest raccoon prevention strategies to reduce your chances of experiencing an infestation.

If you want to protect yourself from future raccoon infestations, sealing off possible entry points is your best bet. Our Wildlife Control techs can evaluate your property to see whether you need any sealing solutions.

Rural regions suffer from crop and poultry house damage caused by raccoons, while urban areas suffer from building damage and trash container damage. Houses near green belts have the highest potential for raccoon pressure. Areas such as, Lucas, Allen, Dallas, Plano, Sachse and Murphy have many creeks and heavy wooded areas. Many types of wildlife thrive in these areas. House backing up to creeks and water ways are the easiest targets close to natural forage areas.
