Commonly called “water bugs” or “palmetto bugs”
Largest of the roach family.
Primarily an outside problem where ground and moisture exist.
Can come indoors when the climate changes but do not like the indoors normally.
Brown Banded Cockroach

One of the smaller roaches (approximately ½ inch long).
Two dark strips from side to side on its body.
Normally seen during the daytime.
If found inside homes they are not likely to be in kitchen areas like the German roaches.
German Cockroach

They have two dark stripes down its head.
Normally found in kitchens and restaurants.
Come out at night when it’s quiet to feed.
A German roach “cleanout” is usually required to gain control.
Severe infestation can affect allergy/asthma patients.
They are thigmotropic which means they like pressure on three sides of their bodies so they like to nest back in the deep dark corners of your kitchen.
Oriental Cockroach

Like the American and Smokey roaches, they like moisture and damp places.
These roaches are more common in sewer systems. They feed on filth and rubbish.
Smokey Brown Cockroach

Closely related to the American roach but are smaller in size.
Primarily an outside problem.
They move in and out of buildings like other roaches when the climate changes.
